10 Jun Review: Goldair Handling Lounge Athens Airport
Lounges at Athens airport are, unfortunately, not exactly world-class. However, on our recent couple of visits to the renovated Goldair Handling lounge we found that it’s certainly the best option that the airport has to offer and is a step in the right direction!
Summary: Definitely the most modern, well-designed and ‘complete’ lounge at Athens airport. This should be your first option if you are flying from the A gates.
Location: The Goldair lounge is after passport control and security at the A gates (non-Schengen) of Athens airport
Access: This is a contract lounge that is shared by multiple airlines at Athens airport. Business class as well as passengers with status on these airlines can access the lounge. You can also get access via Priority Pass or LoungeKey.
The space: The Goldair lounge is fairly big especially considering that the airlines that use don’t have that many flights out of Athens. As such, the lounge is usually not terribly busy. The space is very modern and tastefully done, using mainly dark, metallic/chrome colours and marble. The furniture is also modern and in great condition (which is however expected given that the lounge was just renovated!). One drawback is the fact that there are only two toilets which is obviously a bit of limiting factor! The main seats all have European plugs though it would have been much better to have multiplugs. On the plus side, there are also USB ports that you can use to power up your gadgets.
Food/drinks: The Goldair Handling lounge offers a good variety of cold and hot food items. Everything we’ve tried, both during and breakfast and dinner, has been of good quality and definitely much better than what we’ve seen in the other lounges at Athens airport. There is also a pretty good drinks selection both in terms of fizzy drinks and alcoholic options. Overall, we have been very pleased with what we’ve seen and tasted during our visits there.
