REVIEW: QATAR AIRWAYS AL MOURJAN (BUSINESS CLASS) LOUNGE IN DOHA

For most passengers flying Qatar Airways, Doha is not actually their final destination. As such, having access to a great lounge is a big part of the experience, particularly for business class passengers. Thankfully, Qatar airways has really invested in this area! On our recent flight from Athens to Singapore via Doha we got to experience the Al Mourjan Business lounge (this was our 6th visit to the lounge) and had another wonderful stay which is worth reading about in our review below…

Overall: The Al Mourjan Business lounge is without a doubt in the top 3 business class lounges in the world, if not the top one! It’s an ‘over the top’, luxurious lounge that offers exceptional services and turns your layover in Doha into an experience you will not want to end! In a nutshell, if you are travelling in business class, then don’t hesitate to go for a longer layover in Doha.

Location: The Al Mourjan lounge is on level 3 of Doha’s Hamad airport and is clearly signed. It’s worth mentioning that the lounge is open 24/7.

Just follow the signs, up the stairs, to the Al Mourjan lounge

Access: Only business and first class passengers get access to the lounge (though first class passengers also have access to the Al Safwa lounge) provided they are flying on a onerworld carrier. In other words, if you are flying economy you can’t get in purely based on status (sapphire/emerald). This is bad news for economy passengers but obviously great news for anyone travelling in business class as it significantly reduces the number of visitors.

The space: Upon entering the lounge and walking around for a bit you can’t help but be amazed! With a total space of over 10.000m2 (!) the Al Mourjan lounge seems more like an entire terminal or a 5 star hotel! Right behind the main entrance you will find a beautiful water feature/installation with a staircase that leads to the main restaurant upstairs. The main sitting/lounging area is on the ground floor where there’s also a smaller, deli-type restaurant. The lounge offers a large variety of services (see further below) that you can use to enjoy your stay and relax before your flight. As you will see from the pictures, the lounge has a very modern, futuristic, minimal design that exudes understated luxury. What really impressed us was the super-high ceilings which make the lounge look very airy and majestic. Simply enjoy:

Food/drinks: The Al Mourjan lounge offers two options when it comes to food: a) a main restaurant on the top floor where you will find a large buffet with many Middle Eastern and international dishes and a bar and b) a deli/cafe on the ground floor where you can enjoy smaller bites/sandwhiches. One thing’s certain: you will not go hungry! The deli is better if you’re looking for a quick meal whereas the restaurant offers a more formal setting where you can enjoy a longer meal and a drink. The service in both areas is great so really you can’t go wrong either way.

Other services: Besides the usual that you find in almost every lounge, the Al Mourjan lounge also offers many other interesting services. You can freshen up in the private shower rooms, catch up on some sleep in one of the private resting rooms or use the smokers room, business center, games room or even prayer room. Just remember that if you want to use the private shower or resting rooms then you need to potentially put your name on a waiting list depending on the time of the day and how busy the lounge is. The lounge obviously also offers super high-speed internet. In a few words, it’s a really functional lounge with so many areas to visit and services to use that you can easily keep yourself occupied for 3 hours.
