20 Sep REVIEW: SHERATON ZURICH HOTEL
Zurich is a very popular destination for business travelers and many of the hotels cater to that clientele. The Sheraton Zurich hotel falls in that category and as an SPG/Marriott property where you can earn valuable SPG points is worth being on your radar next time you visit.
Summary: The Sheraton Zurich is a modern, functional, city hotel that does the job for a quick business visit. It’s not a ‘special’ hotel that you will want to come back to and the location is not ideal but it’s a well-connected, competitively-priced hotel that has everything you need for a pleasant stay.
Getting there: Zurich is a very well-connected city and getting to almost any hotel is easy. The best way to get to the Sheraton Zurich (not to be confused with the Sheraton Neues Schloss) from the airport is via taxi or Uber. A taxi will cost around CHF 50 while an Uber is around CHF 30. There is also a tram stop (station Toni-Areal) right outside the hotel which can take you to central Zurich and the main train station in about 15-20′ and the ticket costs under CHF 5. Overall, the area around the hotel is nothing to write home about and doesn’t have much character. However, it is easy to get around in Zurich so you you are only a few stops away from all the action.
The room: We stayed in a Sheraton room and were impressed with how generously sized it was! The room had a very comfortable, king-sized bed, a big tv, a great sitting/desk area and a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower. The rooms, as well as the rest of the hotel, have a contemporary, ‘design’ feel to them that is definitely many notches up from your regular Sheraton experience. You can also tell that the rooms have been designed with the business traveler in mind as the desk area is very comfortable and every connectivity detail (USB ports, universal plugs etc.) has been well thought-out. Internet was free everywhere in the hotel and was very fast too.
The rest of the hotel: As mentioned earlier, the hotel is very modern for a Sheraton and feels very new and ‘clean’. The lobby is quite impressive and has a very nicely designed lounge area where you can relax or grab a drink with colleagues. Right next to it, there is also a well-equipped business center. We were also particularly impressed with the huge gym which stays open 24hrs! This is a big plus, especially for most business travelers who typically try to squeeze in a session either very early in the morning or late at night.
Food/Service: We were there only for one night so didn’t really get a chance to experience much at the hotel but overall, we were very pleased with what we saw. Service was on point and every staff member we interacted with was courteous and well-trained. The check-in process was extremely efficient and we went from entrance-room in about 5 minutes! We had breakfast (included in our rate) at the main restaurant which was nice but not memorable. The restaurant is spacious and very airy, with lots of light coming through but the selection of food items was nothing special. It did the trick for a quick breakfast before work but we wouldn’t ever take more time there than needed.
